HUNT NEW ZEALAND With Peter’s

KIWI WILDERNESS
 SAFARIS LTD

This Hunting organization has been operating as a professional big game outfitter in NZ since 1984. Peter Chamberlain is it’s founder and present supervising hunting guide. Peter also achieved the first Safari Club International South Pacific Hunting Guide award to be presented, and to add, has to this day accomplished almost 100% success for all of his overseas hunting clients.

The main hunting season begins in February, and closes mid August. Game that is guided for; Himalayan Tahr, Red Stag, Alpine Chamois, Wapiti, Fallow stag, Wild Boar, Arapawa ram, and feral Goat. Smaller game as Wallaby, Hare, Rabbit, Bushtail possum, Turkey, Canadian geese and a mixture of duck, can be hunted with the larger game or separately.

For the Wilderness hunts, there are special concessions covering 100,000’s of acres of unoccupied mountains for which to hunt over. Package hunts are conducted over 10,000’s of acres of exclusive privately owned high country.

Himalayan Tahr: NZ’s largest alpine animal, it’s main feature being the striking coat it produces for late autumn (late April) to early spring (September). Bull’s during our hunting season are usually found grouped amongst the lesser sized dull colored females, that is from early May to August.

Red Stag: The most common of our deer species in NZ, similar in some ways as the Wapiti, though its lesser size and color make it quite distinct. Hard antlered from February to mid August, very vocal from late March to late April.

Alpine Chamois: Considered a very popular game animal in Europe, it also has a significant coat color change from tan in summer to mostly black in winter. Ideally hunted in autumn and winter.

Fallow stag: Still found in isolated pockets throughout NZ, though much smaller than the Red stag. Also found in various colors, with the antlers being of the palmated type. Hunted March to August.

Waptiti: Most surviving Wapiti are now on private lands through excellent trophies are still evident. Best hunted March to late July.

Other Game: Arapawa ram, feral Goat, wild boar, and most smaller game, can be hunted all year round.

Trout Fishing: Can be fished for in a limited capacity all year, though the main season is October through April.

WILDERNESS HUNTS. Our minimum Wilderness hunt is over 4days, and our longest hunt is not more than 14 days. Tahr,
Red stag, Chamois and Fallow stag, are the most popular, the Tahr and Chamois make an ideal winter hunt.

Trophy fees: Tahr US$1500. Chamois US$800
Red stag US$1500, Fallow stag US$1200
Goat US$250, Ram US$400, Boar US$500

Small game, bird hunting, and trout fishing, just the day rate applies. The fee includes all in hunt accommodation, 4WD and road transport, meals, full guide service, trophy preparation and firearms. Other equipment also in stock upon request.

PACKAGE HUNTS. Individual trophies are available, though our most popular package hunts are for the 4 species, Red stag, Tahr, Chamois, and Fallow stag. We have designed both a 6 and 10 day hunt, the 6 day hunt is to cater for hunters that wish to take more game in a reasonable amount of time. Other species as with Wapiti, ram, goat, boar, and small game can be added within the hunt structure or have a few days added. The 10 day package hunt/tour is an ideal opportunity for the non hunter to attend, as in the 10 days we have built into this hunt a scenic tour, and added activities such as glacier helicopter flight, jet boat thrill and scenic harbor cruise.
